Learn the ins and outs of the app in the MyFitnessPal 101 tutorial series. In this video, a step-by-step guide to the 4 main food logging tools.
WHY IS LOGGING MY FOOD SO IMPORTANT?
Every time you log meals to your diary, you gather valuable nutritional info. The more often you log, the more you’ll learn to make connections between what (and when) you eat, and how you feel. This helps you set attainable goals. Keeping a daily food journal also makes you accountable to yourself so you can stay on track.
WHAT ARE THE 4 MAIN LOGGING TOOLS IN MYFITNESSPAL?
Watch the tutorial for detailed steps on using each tool, and if you have the app already, follow along! The more comfortable you get with logging, the easier it will be to do it consistently.
1. SEARCH. Use the search tool to find any item in our database of over 11 million foods, from store-bought packaged goods and fresh produce to restaurant menu items and even online recipes. Find the item, adjust your serving size as needed, and log it.
2. BARCODE. This is the fastest way to log packaged foods that contain a barcode. Instead of typing to search, tap the barcode icon and point your phone. The app automatically scans the barcode and returns the best result.
3. VIEW HISTORY. Save time logging your favorite foods. A list of previously logged foods is always visible beneath the search bar. Sort and filter to view the most recent items or most frequent foods.
4. MEAL SCAN. Log meals like magic with our newest and most revolutionary logging tool. Tap Scan Meal then point your camera at your plate. Meal Scan uses food recognition software to identify each food and suggest matches. This tool is available with a MyFitnessPal Premium membership.
