Neanderthals were very widespread in Europe until about 60,000 years ago and this is the time when modern humans, Homo sapiens, are thought to have started migrating out of Africa. Chris Stringer, the Museum's Human Origins expert, tells us how recent genetic discoveries have altered our understanding of the overlap of several thousands of years between the two species.
