An example of Piaget's Egocentric Speech / Vygotsky's Private Speech. This is my 4-1/2 year old coloring a picture. She narrates what she is doing, which is typical of how she does anything that she is deeply engaged in. Early in the video you hear me say, "mm hmm" in acknowledgment of something she said, but she doesn't notice this at all. She's not looking for feedback or comments from me, she is in her own world.
